Set in turn-of-the-century New York City, Disney’s Newsies is the inspiring and high-energy tale of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a better life beyond the streets. When publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack and his band of “newsies” take a stand. With the help of brave young reporter Katherine Plumber, they rally youth across the city to strike against injustice and fight for what’s right.
Based on the 1992 Disney film and inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899, Newsies features a Tony Award–winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, and a thrilling book by Harvey Fierstein. The show bursts with non-stop dance numbers, memorable characters, and rousing anthems like “Seize the Day,” “Carrying the Banner,” and “The World Will Know.”
This production, under the direction of Cameron Byerly, brings bold storytelling to the stage, combining the explosive choreography of Deardre Randolph and powerful musical direction of Christina Major Davis. Newsies is a celebration of the resilience of young voices, the power of unity, and the courage it takes to stand up and be heard.
